Vacation in a jar

•July 13, 2009 • Leave a Comment

This morning I was feeling a little depressed, as I realized I am not going to be able to afford a vacation of any kind this summer….bummer….  I think there are many people who are in the same situation as I am…

So I sat out on my deck in the sun, with a Village Candle Coconut Milk & Lime candle burning.  What a fresh, summery fragrance this is… It’s the perfect blend of Coconut and Lime, and if I close my eyes as I sit here, I can almost imagine that I am on a tropical beach somewhere South of here.  I feel better already… I should do this more often.  MMMMMM…..

Has anyone tried Village Candle’s new Egyptian Sandalwood yet?  It just hit the stores, and I bought it and LOVE it!  The quality of the fragrance is amazing!

Everyone needs to try this candle!

don’t have time to clean your house?

It’s a beautiful time of year in upstate Maine, finally! Sunny and warm… I say that, but for us, warm this time of year is the low 60′s.. Still, I am happy about it.. I finally get to get out in the garden and plant a few things, rake and mulch etc..

Of course, the down side of this is that I do not, I repeat, do not, want to spend time in the house cleaning up after everyone else!  So, here’s what I”m going to do.. I’m going to light my Village Candle Pure Linen jar candle, and pretend that I cleaned today.  A quick sweep of the floor, a quick pick up around the living area, a quick counter wipe in the kitchen, and I’m free to get outside in the real fresh clean air…  and no one needs to know my secret, thanks to Village Candle..

dreaery cold day in Upstate Maine

Hello there friendly bloggers!  IT is awful in Maine right now!  It’s been raining for days and there is no end in sight.  It is also only about 40 degrees… I am tired of this, it is almost June… I need some cheering up.  Maybe a hot cup of coffee and a warm blanket on the couch would work!  I am also going to light my Village Candle Lemon Pound Cake, rather than eat a sweet treat.  You know, summer’s almost here, and I need to lose about 15 pounds….  I think this is the best way to do it…! Onto the couch I go!  It is time for a nap!

A super weekend with Lily

Happy Monday everyone!   NO, really!  Actually, Mondays can be kind of tough, don’t you think?  At least the weather is finally starting to cooperate and spring is in the air!  Though it is 48 degrees right now (here in Northern Maine!) I can smell the fresh fragrance of the Hyacinth and Apple Blossoms out in the yard as I pass them.  The Asian Lilacs are just about ready to bloom.  It all makes for a fabulous, clean scent that can’t be beat.  I guess I am really into the sense of smell :)

My daughter Lily and I had a great weekend.  We did some clothes shopping in Freeport on Saturday, then zipped over to a local restaurant and had some Spinach & Artichoke dip to tide us over til dinner.  Then on our way home we stopped by the Village Candle factory store, in Topsham.. I bought a Crisp Apple jar and also some Spring Lilac Simmerblends.  Simmerblends are the tart like candles that go into a burner… Village Candles are seriously one of life’s little luxuries that I won’t give up, no matter what… Not long ago I realized that I have found a gem of a product line, because the quality is outstanding, and the prices are so reasonable, that I won’t ever try another brand. Anyhow, enough ranting about Village Candle!

Yesterday I cleaned the house, baked a chocolate fudge cake, and then in the early afternoon, Lily and I went to my softball practice.  After that we went home and I prepared a Pork Roast dinner which was out of this world.  Finally, we watched Star Trek (one of the great old ones, with William Shatner) while we had a slice of the cake….MMMMM…..we both had a very full day and so fell into sleep quite early….It was a great weekend.  I am so blessed to have Lily…

Right now I think I’ll continue to reflect back on the weekend and light my Village Candle Crisp Apple Jar…..and, I promise, no more ranting!

What Village Candle am I burning today?

•May 4, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Hi there everyone-

It’s Charice. We just had a very busy weekend.  Lily had a girlscout sleepover Saturday night, and I traded my hot tub for a motorcycle… all in one day!  Then yesterday I went to “motorcycle school” to educate myself on the basics of riding a bike.  No hands-on, just classroom… Anyway, after 9 (yes, nine) hours in the classrooom, I came away with a 98 on the exam, and my permit…  so, today’s it’s off to the town hall to register my bike… Now, mind you, I have not yet ridden a bike… so I have a good teacher, who will go with me to parking lots and back roads to help me learn……. I AM SO EXCITED…

In honor of my HUGE accomplishments this weekend, I think I need to light up a Village Candle… A reasonably priced treat which I can count on to scent whichever area I decide to put it in… Spring is definately in the air way up here in Northern Maine, and I feel like lighting something fresh and flower-like… I think it must be their Spring Lilac …. There is NOTHING like the smell of Fresh Lilacs in bloom.. and Village Candle comes about as close as anyone has to this strong, heady fragrance that we all love..

Anyway,,, off to light this and enjoy it to the fullest.

What a glorious day!

On a beautiful day like today, which is bright and sunny but still a bit nippy, I can burn Village Candle’s Pure Linen candles, and my house smells like fresh clean laundry, just taken off of the clothesline! GLORIOUS!

My Village Candle “scent of the day”

•April 13, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Hey there everyone-

It’s Charice.. I need to be more diligent about getting my blog out sooner in the day!  But you know, with Easter yesterday, and spring just about here (way up in the northernmost part of Maine, it comes pretty late).. There’s always something to do.  We had a great Easter.  Lily of course got the usual chocolate bunny from Peter Cottontail, and we had a great dinner… All in all, a very relaxing and fun day.  IN any case, here’s a little feedback on what I burned today.  It seems as though Village Candle is not slowing their Product Development efforts like so many other companies, due to the economy.  And I am more than happy to be on the receiving end of all of their hard work.  They just launched a fragrance called Coconut Milk & Lime which, of course, I had to run out and buy immediately.  Let me tell you, I have been burning this scent all day today, and it sure has helped usher in the feeling of spring/ summer into my home!  The rich, yet playful scents of Coconut, laced with tart, juicy lime is enough to make me want to head to somewhere warmer, or at least, warmer than Maine!!  Anyway, you know when I get really excited about something, I just have to talk about it… Will zing you all back tomorrow, right now I have the urge to sit in the sun, for some reason!  Ciao!!!!

Village Candle’s delicious goodness!

•April 6, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Okay, just when I thought I had found my favorite Village Candle scent, I came across one of their new fragrances which is the most amazing delicious goodness I have come across in a candleTheir Lemon Pound Cake fragrance.  You know, I have smelled some Lemon fragrances that are hands-down awful!  They smell like Lemon Pledge!  But not this one from Village Candle.  This is like you just baked some Lemon Pound Cake and drizzled creamy icing all over it… Makes me want to cut a slice, and have it with coffee… I don’t know if I will be able to resist.  I might need to make a cake, and have that slice… Oh boy, just 10 weeks til bathing suit season!  On second thought, maybe I’ll just let my Village Candle take me there…

It’s COLD way up here in the Northeast!

•April 1, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Driving home after dropping Lily off at school, I ralized that I’m not sure I like living in the Northeast.  I mean WAY up north, like the tip of Maine… I woke up to 25 degrees F… I’m not getting any younger, and my bones take it tough after such a long winter.  It’s April 1…. maybe this is one big April Fools joke, who knows!

Anyway, as I was driving, I was thinking about what we would be having for supper tonight.  We had a big dinner last night, so I thought something lighter tonight would be best.  Then it hit me… I have Marble rye, I have some super delicious and juicy turkey, I have some homemade russian dressing, some fabulous swiss cheese.. Why not have toasted turkey/ swiss sandwiches on marble rye?  I could even throw in some hot, homemade popcorn!  Lily would love that meal.. You know, where the swiss is oozing out the sides of the bread?  YUMMM!  And how economical, I’ll be using up alot of leftovers… That’s the name of the game, with the ecomnomy the way it is… You never know what’s going to happen, so we save when we can, and scrimp, and you know the drill.

Still, you know me, I gotta have my candles… from the minute I get home, til the time I go to bed, those babies are lit.  Today, with the cold, I need some comfort… So I think I’ll turn to one of my fav’s.  Banana Nut Bread, from Village Candle.  This scent makes me want to bake, bake, bake… Or at least it smells like I just did!  The fragrance wafts through the house.. I like to blow it out right before I go pick up Lily from school.  She always runs in looking for her snack of Banana Bread!  So I always try to have some ready, with some soft butter for her to spread on it, and a nice glass of Ice- cold milk… CHEERS! And happy baking! Charice
